Applebee’s is once again pushing the limits of the cheeseburger.
The casual-dining chain unveiled the Bacon Cheeseburger Wonton Taco, a combination of ground beef, bacon, melted cheddar cheese, pickles, and spicy honey mustard in a crispy wonton shell.
The dish will be available as an appetizer on Applebee’s 2 for $25 menu through Aug. 16.
It follows two recent successful burger promotions for the chain: The Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger and the viral O-M-Cheeseburger, a halved burger served in a skillet of melted cheese that became the best-selling burger ever on the 2 for $25 menu.
Customers can get Bacon Cheeseburger Wonton Tacos as an appetizer when they order a 2 for $25, along with their choice of two entrees.
Along with the new tacos, Applebee’s is expanding the entree selection on 2 for $25 to include the O-M-Cheeseburger (again), Fiesta Lime Chicken, and a California Grilled Chicken Salad for a limited time.
Two for $25 has proven to be a winning proposition for price-conscious Applebee’s customers. In the chain’s most recent quarter, 33% of customers ordered a 2 for $25 or another value offer.
Applebee’s has used the offer to showcase its menu innovation. It has put an emphasis on creating new and unique menu items in an effort to improve same-store sales and traffic in recent years.
Applebee’s is also launching new drink specials for summer: A Bacardi Blushing Dragon for $6 and the Backflippin’ Blue and Prickly Plunge margaritas for $10.
Here are the full details on the drinks:
Bacardi Blushing Dragon: Bacardí Superior Rum, dragon fruit, premium lemon sour, and lemonade.
Backflippin’ Blue Margarita: Don Julio Reposado Tequila, Malibu Coconut Rum, blue curaçao, passion fruit, pineapple, cherry, and lime.
Prickly Plunge Margarita: Don Julio Reposado Tequila, Smirnoff Vodka, triple sec, prickly pear, and lime.
