Movie tie-in meals were popular in Q2

These film promotions left us starstruck.

Ever since "Star Wars" teamed up with Burger King in 1977 to release a limited-edition set of drinking glasses, it's become commonplace for movie franchises to partner with QSR chains.

Growing up in the 2000s, I have so many memories of begging my parents to go to the drive-thru for the latest promotional kids' toy or item, including, yes, the cadmium-laden "Shrek Forever After" glasses.

Nowadays, it seems chains have been moving toward limited-time meals and away from collectibles (though some chains still have those, too). For example, though not the first instance of a movie QSR food product, Burger King partnered with Amazon Studios in 2024 to release a limited-time menu inspired by "The Addams Family," featuring a Whopper with a purple bun, among other items. There are quite a few movie meals that have stood out this year alone.

QSR executives have said that these promotions help modernize their brands and bring a younger customer base through the door.

Take a look through the gallery above to see some stand-out promotions from Q2.
