Subway invites families to the islands with 'Moana' promotion
Fans of the Disney film can upgrade to a Moana Movie Meal Deal for $1 and receive a collectible cup and $15 off a movie ticket

Subway is jumping on the summer movie blockbuster bandwagon.
The sandwich giant on Monday announced a new meal deal, which starts June 11, tied to the upcoming opening of “Moana,” which is in theaters on July 10.
The promotion comes 10 years after the animated “Moana” by Walt Disney Studios was released. The upcoming version is a live action film, with a similar story of courage, discovery and connection, according to Subway.
With the promotion, Subway customers can upgrade any meal to a Moana Movie Meal Deal for an additional $1 and receive one of five collectible Moana cups, as well as a $15 Fandango code embedded in the cup to see the movie in theaters when it opens.
“Disney’s Moana is the kind of cinematic event that brings families together and creates unforgettable summer memories,” said Jeff Klein, Subway’s chief marketing officer, in a statement. “Through our collaboration with Disney, we wanted to create an experience that extends beyond the theater—from collectible cups and movie rewards to immersive music and digital storytelling inspired by the world of Moana. The Moana Movie Meal Deal is our way of helping fans celebrate the adventure together all summer long.”
Subway is also offering a series of digital and social experiences tied to the film, including a co-branded destination, in-app takeovers, custom social storytelling and a music-driven digital experience inspired by the rhythms and spirit of the islands.
This summer will bring a number of expected blockbusters to which restaurant chains are tying promotions. Papa Johns is celebrating the release of “Toy Story 5,” Pizza Hut is marking the 30th anniversary of “Space Jam,” Starbucks was promoting “The Devil Wears Prada2,” and Burger King had a limited-time promotion with “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.”
